About Our Story
Our Story:
We are Shad and Kathi Sollars, a husband and wife team that love being behind a camera, traveling and capturing that "One Moment InTime". We have been photographing together for over 20 years and have been doing weddings together since 2003.
We started business in Oregon. In 2009, we moved to Maui!!! We enjoyed the change in pace, in life, in photography and in ourselves! We then landed in Loveland, Colorado for a year enjoying family but returned to Maui where our heart is.
It is our vision through the talent of photography that God has granted both of us, we can capture those "One Moments In Time" to help share God's love and glory with others.
Kathi's start in photography:
Kathi was interested in photography in high school and took photography classes in College. As a college student she found the money to buy a Nikon N50, several lenses and a tripod to start her collection. Since then she has continued with her love of photography and seems to always have a camera in her hand.
She somehow developed an inspiration to take photos of waterfalls. She has an extensive collection of waterfall pictures that includes just about all the waterfalls in the state of Oregon and several in California, Colorado, Alaska and of course Hawaii. Her favorite places to photograph are just about anywhere water runs down hill quickly (especially the North Umpqua River waterfalls near Crater Lake National Park, OR) and where water crashes into the shore (especially at Secret Beach in Maui).
Shad's start in photography:
Shad started taking pictures when he was about seven years old. His first camera was a Nikon EM that he quickly outgrew and upgraded to a Nikon FM a short time later. By the age of about ten he was helping his Dad teach photo classes to adults. The family had a darkroom in their basement, giving Shad the opportunity to develop his own black and white film and make his own enlargements. Shad has taken photo classes in high school and college.
Shad's interest in photography dwindled down to taking pictures of his kids until he met Kathi and since then we have been able to share our love of photography together. Now as a certified Scuba Diving Instructor, he has taken his talent under the sea.
Our Travel:
In the last 20 plus years we have photographed all over the USA including trips to California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Texas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Alaska and Hawaii. We have also taken International trips to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, Bahamas, St. Martin, Martinique, Barbados, Bonaire and the Philippines.
Our National Park travels:
One of our favorite destinations is our National Parks. We have had the opportunity to photograph in Haleakala, Hawai'i Volcanoes, Crater Lake, Yosemite, Redwoods, Lassen, Great Basin, Olympic, Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Everglades, Shenandoah, Smoky Mountain, Cave of the Winds, Glacier Bay and Denali National Parks. So far we haven't found a National Park that we don't want to go back to and spend more time behind a lens at.
Our Dreams:
Our Dreams...There is so much to see out there and to photograph. Our ultimate dream for the future is to quit this madness of regular jobs and go out on the road taking pictures for a living. We dream of buying an RV and living by the seasons...Fall in the Northeast for Autumn colors, Winter in Hawaii, Spring in the high mountains as flowers come into bloom and Summer on the tundras of Denali National Park in Alaska. We also dream to see Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Italy and the Orient.
"God made all things and everything continues through him and for him. To him be the glory forever."
Romans 11:36
"Why do you stare at the sunsets and ponder the summer night sky? Why do you search for a rainbow in the midst or gaze at the Grand Canyon? How do we explain our fascination with such sights? Beauty? Yes. But doesn't beauty point to a beautiful Someone? Doesn't the immensity of the ocean suggest an immense creator? Doesn't the rhythm of migrating cranes and beluga whales hint of a brillant mind? And isn't that what we desire? A beautiful Maker? An immense Creator? A God so mighty he can commission the birds and command the fish?"
